The Drug whose production reached 10.5 million monthly : Remdesivir

It is a broad spectrum anti viral drug which administered by intravenous (IV) route.

It was originally used for the treatment of Hepatitis C and later for Ebola virus disease before being studied as a post infection treatment for Covid-19.

The most common side effect that has been seen in Covid-19 patients is nausea.

Mechanism of action- It is a pro drug that promotes the formation of a ribonucleotide analogue that inhibits the viral RNA polymerase.

Interactions- It is not recommended to use Remdesivir along with cytochrome 450 enzyme inducers and hydroxychloroquine both of which shall reduce its antiviral action.

Remdesivir is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of COVID-19 in hospitalized adult and pediatric patients (aged ≥12 years and weighing ≥40 kg).

Dose regimen-
Those being treated with the regimen receive remdesivir
